The Insurance Institute of Gauteng’s 81st annual dinner is a highly anticipated event in the Insurance industry calendar, held at the prestigious Sandton Convention Centre. VCIB was privileged to attend this noteworthy occasion. The evening featured the presentation of long-service awards, including a remarkable 50-year award bestowed upon Chris Copeland.

Chris Copeland is a seasoned insurance industry veteran with a rich history spanning over five decades. He embarked on his professional journey in 1969 after a brief but pivotal service in the army following his matriculation in 1968.

Initially, Chris ventured into the world of finance by joining Barclays Bank, where he honed his skills as a trainee in Forex. However, guided by his late father’s profound influence as an insurance expert, Chris transitioned to the insurance sector in the late 1970s.

His career in insurance took root at National Employers Mutual General Insurance (NEM), where he embarked on a comprehensive learning journey, mastering all aspects of the field and eventually specializing in short-term insurance.

After two fruitful years at NEM, Chris sought to broaden his horizons, leading him to join Glanville Einthoven as an Insurance Broker. During this period, he excelled in client relations and gained valuable insights for another two years.

Chris’s reputation and expertise drew the attention of Ned Equity, and he became an integral part of their team. Over time, this company merged with AA Insurance, further enriching his industry experience.

In 1978, Chris returned to the realm of insurance brokering, reaching a pinnacle in his career by becoming a Partner of Vaal Central Insurance Brokers.

Today, Chris Copeland continues to be a driving force as a Director and the Senior Partner at VCIB, where he collaboratively manages the company alongside his son and co-partner, Ryan Copeland.

With his extensive background and dedication to the insurance industry, Chris remains a prominent figure in the field, steering VCIB towards continued success.

Chris’s dedication and contribution to the industry are truly remarkable, and this milestone serves as a testament to his legacy and the insurance industry as a whole.
